Elliott House Renaming
A New Chapter for A Historic Treasure – and Your Vote Counts
While the existing Elliott House name is protected under its listing, Grifo plans to work with Historic England and Canterbury City Council to recognise a new name that better reflects its history and spirit. We've shortlisted three potential names — each thoughtfully chosen to honour its heritage — and now turn to you, the people of Kent, to decide.
You are now invited to vote on your favourite of the following proposed names for the restored landmark:
Passmore Edwards Place – in honour of the philanthropist John Passmore Edwards, whose financial gift helped fund the original build.
The Grange – a nod to the Reculver setting featured in the James Bond novel, Goldfinger.
Barnes Wallis House – in recognition of the designer of the ‘bouncing bomb’ which was tested along the Reculver shoreline and used by the RAF Dambusters in World War II.
You will also be asked to vote to name the access road that will serve the three new chalet bungalows. Options are:
Barnes Wallis Approach
Saxon Snell Way - after the architect Alfred Saxon Snell, who designed the original convalescent home.
Passmore Edwards Way
