Wells One is proposed in the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells, a town defined by its rich heritage and enduring connection to the railway that catalysed its growth in the 19th century.

Once open countryside, the arrival of the railway in 1845 transformed the area into a thriving destination, later earning its “Royal” distinction in 1909. The site itself reflects this layered history, evolving from a focal point anchored by the railway station and Railway Bell Pub, to a department store, then a school, and ultimately a car park serving the town centre.

Surrounded by well-preserved Victorian terraces and located within the conservation area, the site sits in close proximity to the historic station and High Street. Wells One seeks to sensitively respond to this context, respecting its historical surroundings while contributing to the town’s continued evolution through considered, contemporary design.

Wells One will see the the partial demolition of the six-storey Torrington Car Park and the erection of a 17-storey building and 10-storey shoulder building for Build to Rent residential accommodation.

The new development will deliver 122 apartments, 3 Class-E commercial units along with resident amenities include Business lounge, post & parcel room, pet parlour, cycle workshop and store. There will also be a top floor bar and lounge bookable for private events by the public.

The scheme will re-provide 405 existing car parking spaces with an additional 40 parking spaces.
