One Year at Chalk House

Over the past year, Chalk House has quietly been transforming the Westgate-on-Sea seafront.  What began as careful preparatory works has evolved into a complex, layered build — one defined by precision, patience and collaboration. Captured through a year-long time-lapse, this film distils thousands of hours of work into moments, revealing the choreography of construction that often goes unseen.

From the earliest stages, progress at Chalk House has been deliberate. Structural interventions, steel installations and reconfigured floor plates laid the foundations for what would follow. Each phase required coordination across trades, particularly as new structures were carefully integrated with retained elements of the existing buildings. The time-lapse reveals this gradual emergence — frames filling, roofs forming, and elevations beginning to read as a whole.

As the months progressed, the site gained momentum. Roof structures were completed, making key parts of the development weather-tight, while brickwork, stone detailing and window installations began to define the external character.

Internally, the build has been equally intricate. Drylining, joisting, stair installations and first-fix works have steadily advanced across the site, each step preparing the way for the next. The film captures this layered process: floors appearing where there was once open sky, spaces taking shape long before their final finishes are applied. It is a reminder that construction progress is rarely linear, but cumulative.

Chalk House is a story of adaptability. Sequencing works across multiple buildings, responding to structural discoveries, coordinating deliveries and navigating coastal weather conditions have all been part of the journey. The year’s progress reflects not just what has been built, but how challenges have been met — through planning, experience and teamwork across consultants, contractors and site management

While the build continues, this moment marks an important chapter in Chalk House’s evolution — one where the scale of progress becomes visible, and the rhythm of construction tells its own story.

We look forward to sharing the next stages as Chalk House moves closer to completion.
